I am down with a really bad cold, and usually, when I have this type of cold, I’ll have an asthmatic attack after a couple of days. Pretty sure I got this from my commute to work, well it’s flu and cold season now here in Canada so most commuters can’t help but get sick.

Speaking of getting sick, have you ever worked so hard that you got sick? I know I have, not necessarily this instance, but in the past. You know people who live in the office, who sleep less than 5 hours and work 19 hours a day? They are called workaholics. I used to be one, but that changed when I started loving my self more.

What is self-love by the way? Google will tell you that it is the regard for one’s own well-being and happiness. I will tell you, it is the love that you deserve from the only person who deserves to love you, none other than… yourself. This love is not narcissistic in anyway, but genuine love you give towards yourself.

Now you ask me if I work 19 hours a day for my family and serving my family is my source of happiness, isn’t it more important than self-love? Probably, but not quite. Over time, you will feel like a victim, you’ll start asking yourself, I always take care of everybody, who will take care of me, when all along you should be taking care of yourself!

I’m not saying it’s wrong to love others, remember, God tells us this, love our neighbor as yourself. If you don’t give yourself love, how can you offer love? how can you spread love? Our definition of love might be different but it all boils down to this; if we don’t know how to love ourselves, how can we know how to love others?

What’s my point? Not loving yourself enough or the lack of self-love is not limited to you being a workaholic, it can also be you being stuck in unhealthy relationships, you not feeling good about yourself, you not honoring your values, you not celebrating your achievements and a whole lot more.

What is the simplest thing that you can do to exhibit self-love? Tell yourself everyday and every chance you get, I AM ENOUGH! Because if you feel you are enough, that’s when you start loving yourself from within and not from any external sources and experiences.

You are enough my friend so start loving yourself NOW!
